Rafting season is during the spring time runoff from March through May of the White Mountains of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation and a short drive from Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. Durango Rivers and Trails (DRT) is a locally based outfitter which specializes in getting away from the masses of the Durango tourist industry. Hundreds of thousands of people visit to ride the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and visit Mesa Verde National Park. DRT is the only outfitter with access to the incredibly scenic Animas River valley just north of Durango and restricts its self to a maximum of two rafts per day.
